Water filtration & softening on Longboat Key
Longboat Key buys its water from Manatee County, on both the Manatee and Sarasota ends of the key. It's hard and disinfected with chloramine. We quote a flat price in writing and install in a day, condos included.
What we see in Longboat Key homes.
- 01
Hard water
Manatee County's 2025 water quality data lists total hardness of 106 to 279 mg/L, roughly 6 to 16 grains per gallon. Glass, stone and fixtures spot fast.
- 02
Chloramine
The water is disinfected with chloramine, so our whole-home systems use catalytic carbon made to remove it.
- 03
Drinking water
An under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) drinking water system reduces PFAS, lead and dissolved solids at the kitchen tap.
Most Longboat Key homes start with The Whole Home; larger homes often go with the Two-Tank Whole Home. Your utility's report and a quick call settle the final design. See all the systems and prices, or take the one-minute quiz. Read up on hard water and the chloramine taste.
Every quote puts the price in writing, and the price on the quote is the price on the invoice. Standard parts and fittings mean any plumber can service it. How to compare water companies.
Your address decides your water.
Longboat Key sits in two counties, but the whole key gets the same water. The Town of Longboat Key buys it wholesale from Manatee County, which blends Lake Manatee reservoir water with Floridan aquifer wells and disinfects with chloramine. It meets drinking water standards, but it's hard: Manatee County's 2025 data lists 106 to 279 mg/L, roughly 6 to 16 grains per gallon.
That hardness shows on everything a Longboat home is proud of: glass shower doors, marble and stone, polished fixtures and tankless water heaters. A softener stops the spotting and scale, and catalytic carbon takes out the chloramine taste and smell at every tap.
Much of the key is condos. If your association doesn't allow whole-home equipment, an under-sink drinking water system and a shower filter still make a real difference, and we'll look at the rules with you first. In a house, the tanks go in the garage, a utility room or under an elevated home, out of sight.

What Longboat Key homeowners ask us.
My house is on the Sarasota end. Is my water different?
No. The Town of Longboat Key supplies the whole key with water it buys from Manatee County, on both sides of the county line. It's hard and disinfected with chloramine either way.
I'm in a condo. Can I still get filtration?
Usually. If the association doesn't allow whole-home equipment or there's no room for it, an under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) drinking water system and a shower filter cover what you drink and touch most. We'll look at your association's rules with you before you buy anything.
We're only here part of the year. Is that a problem?
No. The softener's metered valve only recharges when water has actually been used, so it doesn't waste salt or water while the house sits empty. When you come back after a few months away, run each tap for a few minutes to flush water that sat in the pipes. If a house watcher or property manager looks after the place, we can schedule the install and yearly service with them.
Will the equipment be on show?
No. We put the tanks in the garage, a utility room or under an elevated home, run the lines neatly, and leave nothing visible from the street. We use corrosion-resistant fittings near the water and plan where the tanks go with flood elevation in mind.
What does reverse osmosis actually remove?
Reverse osmosis (RO) is an under-sink drinking water system that pushes water through a very fine membrane. RO (drinking water) membranes reduce PFAS, lead, arsenic, nitrate, fluoride and most dissolved solids. Certification is claim by claim, so we install systems certified under NSF/ANSI 58 for the specific contaminants you care about, and we'll show you the listing.
Nobody is coming to sit at your kitchen table.
Most companies want to come test your water so they can sit at your table and sell. We don't need to: your utility publishes exactly what's in it, every year. The one visit before install day is a short look at where your water comes in, so the price we put in writing covers any extra plumbing work.
