Water filtration & softening in Osprey

Most Osprey homes are on Sarasota County water: disinfected with chloramine and hard enough to scale water heaters and spot glass. We quote a flat price in writing and install in a day. Wells get a free test first.

01Osprey water

What we see in Osprey homes.

  • 01

    Scale

County water is softened to around 7 grains per gallon: enough to shorten the life of tankless water heaters and spot glass shower doors.

  • 02

    Chloramine

The county uses chloramine, so our whole-home systems use catalytic carbon made to remove it.

  • 03

    Drinking water

An under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) drinking water system reduces PFAS, lead and dissolved solids at the kitchen tap.

Most Osprey homes start with The Whole Home; larger homes often go with the Two-Tank Whole Home. On a well? Start with a free test. Your utility's report and a quick call settle the final design. See all the systems and prices, or take the one-minute quiz. Read up on hard water and the rotten-egg smell on wells.

Every quote puts the price in writing, and the price on the quote is the price on the invoice. Standard parts and fittings mean any plumber can service it. How to compare water companies.

02Local know-how

Your address decides your water.

Osprey is served by Sarasota County Utilities, which blends water bought from the Peace River Manasota regional authority and Manatee County with its own Carlton wellfield. It's softened to around 7 grains per gallon and disinfected with chloramine, with a two-week switch to free chlorine each spring.

That's still hard enough to matter in a large home with tankless water heaters, glass showers and stone counters. A softener stops the scale and spotting; catalytic carbon takes the chloramine taste and smell out of every tap. In bigger homes we often suggest the two-tank version so each tank does one job and recharges less often.

Some older and larger properties around Osprey are on private wells. Well water is different: sulfur smell and iron are common, and nobody else tests it. If that's you, we test it first, free, and quote from the results.

03Questions

What Osprey homeowners ask us.

We have a large home. Is one system enough?

Usually, if it's sized right. For bigger homes and busy households we often suggest the two-tank version: a full-size softener and its own carbon tank, each doing one job. It recharges less often and the carbon lasts longer. The written quote shows exactly what we'd install and why.

I'm on a well in Osprey. What's different?

Everything. Your well has its own mix, often sulfur smell and iron, and no utility tests it for you. We test it first, free, and the quote is based on what's actually in your water.

Will the equipment be on show?

No. We put the tanks in the garage, a utility room or under an elevated home, run the lines neatly, and leave nothing visible from the street. We use corrosion-resistant fittings near the water and plan where the tanks go with flood elevation in mind.

We're only here part of the year. Is that a problem?

No. The softener's metered valve only recharges when water has actually been used, so it doesn't waste salt or water while the house sits empty. When you come back after a few months away, run each tap for a few minutes to flush water that sat in the pipes. If a house watcher or property manager looks after the place, we can schedule the install and yearly service with them.

What does reverse osmosis actually remove?

Reverse osmosis (RO) is an under-sink drinking water system that pushes water through a very fine membrane. RO (drinking water) membranes reduce PFAS, lead, arsenic, nitrate, fluoride and most dissolved solids. Certification is claim by claim, so we install systems certified under NSF/ANSI 58 for the specific contaminants you care about, and we'll show you the listing.

Nobody is coming to sit at your kitchen table.

Most companies want to come test your water so they can sit at your table and sell. We don't need to: your utility publishes exactly what's in it, every year. The one visit before install day is a short look at where your water comes in, so the price we put in writing covers any extra plumbing work.
