Water filtration & softening on Siesta Key
Siesta Key homes get Sarasota County water: disinfected with chloramine and hard enough to spot glass and stone. We quote a flat price in writing and install in a day, with the equipment out of sight.
What we see in Siesta Key homes.
- 01
Chloramine
The county disinfects with chloramine. Ordinary carbon removes it slowly, so our whole-home systems use catalytic carbon made for it.
- 02
Spots & scale
County water is softened to around 7 grains per gallon: still enough to spot glass shower doors, stone and fixtures, and to scale tankless water heaters.
- 03
Drinking water
An under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) drinking water system reduces PFAS, lead and dissolved solids at the kitchen tap.
Most Siesta Key homes start with The Whole Home; larger homes often go with the Two-Tank Whole Home. Your utility's report and a quick call settle the final design. See all the systems and prices, or take the one-minute quiz. Read up on the chloramine taste and hard water.
Every quote puts the price in writing, and the price on the quote is the price on the invoice. Standard parts and fittings mean any plumber can service it. How to compare water companies.
Your address decides your water.
Most of Siesta Key is served by Sarasota County Utilities, with water piped across from the mainland. The county blends water bought from the Peace River Manasota regional authority and Manatee County with its own Carlton wellfield, softens it to around 7 grains per gallon and disinfects it with chloramine. Each spring the county switches to free chlorine for about two weeks to keep the pipes clean, so the smell changes for a while. Catalytic carbon handles both.
Island homes ask more of a water system. Glass shower doors, natural stone and polished fixtures show every spot. Salt air is hard on metal, so we use corrosion-resistant fittings, keep the tanks inside a garage, utility room or under an elevated home, and plan the placement with flood elevation in mind.
Many homes on the key are lived in for part of the year or rented out. The softener only recharges when the water has actually been used, so empty weeks cost nothing, and we can schedule the install around your rental calendar or with your property manager.

What Siesta Key homeowners ask us.
Will the equipment be on show?
No. We put the tanks in the garage, a utility room or under an elevated home, run the lines neatly, and leave nothing visible from the street. We use corrosion-resistant fittings near the water and plan where the tanks go with flood elevation in mind.
We're only here part of the year. Is that a problem?
No. The softener's metered valve only recharges when water has actually been used, so it doesn't waste salt or water while the house sits empty. When you come back after a few months away, run each tap for a few minutes to flush water that sat in the pipes. If a house watcher or property manager looks after the place, we can schedule the install and yearly service with them.
Why does my water smell different in the spring?
Sarasota County switches from chloramine to free chlorine for about two weeks each spring to keep its pipes clean, so the water can smell more like a pool for a while. A whole-home catalytic carbon filter takes out both.
I'm in a condo. Can I still get filtration?
Usually. If the association doesn't allow whole-home equipment or there's no room for it, an under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) drinking water system and a shower filter cover what you drink and touch most. We'll look at your association's rules with you before you buy anything.
What does reverse osmosis actually remove?
Reverse osmosis (RO) is an under-sink drinking water system that pushes water through a very fine membrane. RO (drinking water) membranes reduce PFAS, lead, arsenic, nitrate, fluoride and most dissolved solids. Certification is claim by claim, so we install systems certified under NSF/ANSI 58 for the specific contaminants you care about, and we'll show you the listing.
Nobody is coming to sit at your kitchen table.
Most companies want to come test your water so they can sit at your table and sell. We don't need to: your utility publishes exactly what's in it, every year. The one visit before install day is a short look at where your water comes in, so the price we put in writing covers any extra plumbing work.
